Kylie McConville Appointed Deputy Editor of The Slowdown

McConville to enhance the New York City media company’s various editorial offerings and expand its digital growth and overall strategy

New York, NY, February 3, 2025 The Slowdown, a culture-forward media company renowned for its distinctive, expertly crafted storytelling projects and award-winning Time Sensitive podcast, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kylie McConville as Deputy Editor. McConville comes to The Slowdown with extensive experience in digital media and publishing, having shaped editorial strategies and content across several leading platforms, most recently as the Editor-in-Chief at Apartment Therapy and before that as Vice President of Editorial Growth and Strategy at Bustle Digital Group.

“As The Slowdown nears its six-year anniversary, we’re at an inflection point,” says Spencer Bailey, the company’s Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief. “Kylie is reflective of our upward trajectory. I’m absolutely thrilled to have her onboard. She brings with her an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience, and in her new role is going to be a key part of our long-view evolution, big-picture editorial vision, and ongoing growth.”

At Apartment Therapy, McConville was instrumental in steering the home design and décor website forward as a benchmark for insightful, service-oriented lifestyle journalism. During her time there, she oversaw numerous successful campaigns and initiatives, including partnerships with brands including DoorDash and Home Depot. As Vice President of Editorial Growth & Strategy at Bustle Digital Group, she also played a central role, overseeing content strategy and integration for several acquired digital media properties, including The Zoe Report and NYLON.

“I’m so excited to be joining The Slowdown, where intention and authenticity run core to everything the team creates,” McConville says. “I admire what Spencer and the team have built so far and can’t wait to lend my experience in brand strategy and storytelling to usher in this next wave of growth for the company, reaching new audiences eager for thoughtful, heart-centered conversation and connection.”

In her pivotal Deputy Editor role, McConville will manage the company’s day-to-day editorial operations, overseeing its editorial calendar and ensuring that its multifarious storytelling initiatives align seamlessly with the brand’s overall mission and vision. She will collaborate closely with Bailey to shape and refine The Slowdown’s voice across all of its platforms and projects, and will help steer the editorial and brand strategy of the company. McConville will also work with the Head of Production and Operations to manage the editorial process of The Slowdown’s acclaimed Time Sensitive podcast, from guest selection and interview preparation to the final editing stages. She will also oversee the production of the company's flagship newsletter.

Her responsibilities extend to “editorial studio” projects, too, for which she will provide editorial guidance to ensure that any output—including a multiyear, multivolume book series from the Phaidon imprint Monacelli celebrating The Leading Hotels of the World—not only meets The Slowdown's high standards, but also resonates with its intended target audiences. Additionally, McConville will play a critical role in managing The Slowdown’s digital presence, developing user engagement and audience development strategies. Her expertise will be crucial in maintaining the editorial excellence that The Slowdown is known for while expanding its offerings to reach new readers, listeners, and viewers across the cultural spectrum.

McConville officially begins her role today, February 3, 2025.
